Boris Doesborg 🇳🇱 batigolix 💧 Finalist 🏢 an hour ago Almost midnight in Holland, NL not MI

Boris Doesborg 🇳🇱 batigolix 💧 Finalist 🏢 an hour ago GO PARAGRAPHS!!

KarinG G 🇨🇦 an hour ago 🤣

Corey Snodgrass an hour ago i just have to figure out how to get around drop down selections filled with components

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs an hour ago @Corey Snodgrass are you referring to paragraphs?

Corey Snodgrass an hour ago yea

Tom Arnold an hour ago (my own screwey tpl.php!)

Michael Silverman an hour ago go @Jay Callicott !

Doug Vann an hour ago oh yah!

Kevin Basarab an hour ago Drupal 4.7 For life!

RAFAEL CICHINI an hour ago Do you consider Acquia Cohesion as an option?

Dan Surkan an hour ago oh the horrors. I remember this.

John Evans an hour ago @Corey Snodgrass Are you being as strict as you can be with restricting which paragraph types are available on each content type?

Immo reel an hour ago use context!

Immo reel an hour ago ha!

Tom Arnold an hour ago ^^ boom…

Kyle Regan an hour ago @RAFAEL CICHINI It’s proprietary and has cost/licensing associated with it

Kevin Moylan an hour ago @Corey Snodgrass Paragraph Browser

Kyle Skrinak an hour ago I’m getting nostalgic

Owen Bush an hour ago Whats up next @Immo reel ?

Michael Silverman an hour ago is it my bandwidth or Jay’s camera lens?

Tom Arnold an hour ago (still livin’ it)

Andy Smith an hour ago PTSD

Doug Vann an hour ago #triggered

Michael Silverman an hour ago much better!

Boris Doesborg 🇳🇱 batigolix 💧 Finalist 🏢 an hour ago combinations of context, panels and display suite are very powerful

Jenny Panighetti an hour ago Context, uuuuuuugh

Nik Anderson an hour ago Present Tramatic Stress

Robert Mcdiarmid an hour ago LOL @Doug - TOTALLY Triggered by Context

James Saul an hour ago +1 to “Context, uuuuuuugh”

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs an hour ago Cohesion (now renamed to Site Studio) is certainly an option but a service from Acquia ($’s) is required to get search working

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs an hour ago Or maybe even to use it all…

Immo reel an hour ago We mostly use blocks embedded in paragraphs with display suite fields controlled by contexts

Doug Vann an hour ago BackdropCMS really found the sweet spot on the notion of “Panels in Core”

Immo reel an hour ago panels suck

Rosemary Foley an hour ago Panels is powerful, but with power comes abuse

Jane Jiumaleh an hour ago Nik, did you coin “Present Traumatic Stress?” PTS is a great term and I want to use it.

William Bordac an hour ago +1 hate

Boris Doesborg 🇳🇱 batigolix 💧 Finalist 🏢 an hour ago put that screenshot away! i cant look at it!

Mike Carter an hour ago mostly hate panels, but it was good for d7

Rosemary Foley an hour ago Panels is frustrating to work with though, especially if you’re picking up a site with panels that you didn’t configure and was all configured incorrectly

Lidia Delgado an hour ago Yes, agree. We use panels too in Drupal 7

Shelane French an hour ago It lost functionality in D8.

Nik Anderson an hour ago @Jane Jiumaleh just riffing on PTSD that isn’t “post” yet :D

Owen Bush an hour ago Panels has some good use-cases, for everything else there are tears.

Corey Snodgrass an hour ago @Kevin Moylan - thanks

Ashley Ryan an hour ago I feel triggered each time i hear “Panels” this con, and it’s more than I expected.

Kevin Montgomery an hour ago Panels IPE was super ahead of its time

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs an hour ago Variants are great, hard to do that with other solutions. Panel plugins very powerful. Happy to see Variant logic has moved into Page Manager in D8+

Anna Rueden an hour ago I have used ALL of these at different times because none of them is the clear winner D:

Volker Bogatzki an hour ago Never got my head around contexts in panels…

Kristin Nielsen (she/her) an hour ago @Anna Rueden same here.

Kevin Montgomery an hour ago Are the slides frozen for anyone else?

Immo reel an hour ago Panels should be reason enough to eol drupal 7

Chris Fish an hour ago I love panels

Robert Mcdiarmid an hour ago mobile first brought paragraphs to the front

Patrick Boutin an hour ago not frozen.. just blurry

Stefan Kuss an hour ago Slides are fine here

Nik Anderson an hour ago Kevin, the slides are ok here, maybe refresh

Kevin Basarab an hour ago @Kevin Montgomery May need to refresh browser. That’s happened to me a few times throughout the Con

Doug Vann an hour ago Bootstrap Paragraphs ROCKED in the Pre Layout Builder Era

Bill Gillard an hour ago I had to refresh for slides to advance

Kyle Regan an hour ago Same

Lidia Delgado 44 minutes ago Did I miss the link to the slides? I do see them in the presentation, but wondering if the link to them was sent out

Kevin Montgomery 44 minutes ago Not going to refresh. Last time I refreshed it took 10 minutes of refreshing to hear audio again :-P

Zack Hawkins 44 minutes ago spam this guy 👨‍💻 to improve Jay’s wifi

Chris Fish 44 minutes ago soooo many d7 sites i still maintain on panels

Michael Yunkin 44 minutes ago I had to refresh constantly in Chrome, but Firefox has been stable.

Josh Wagner 44 minutes ago Wait, is this Twitch? @Zack Hawkins lol

Zack Hawkins 44 minutes ago 😎

Rebecca Macaulay 44 minutes ago I found leaving the session and coming back helps with the refresh problem

Rich Lawson - Mediacurrent 43 minutes ago @Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) , we had a really great experience with i8n with asymmetric translation client using https://www.drupal.org/project/layout_builder_at. On the symmetric side, the core synced translation issue is still around, but https://www.drupal.org/project/layout_builder_st has been improved quite a bit recently. It is still in alpha, though.

Jessica Straatmann 42 minutes ago Con: core search doesn’t index paragraphs on private node types

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 42 minutes ago Q: Someone told me revision bloat in Paragraphs had been solved. Not true?

Jessica Straatmann 42 minutes ago Per the session yesterday, no

Mike Cermak 42 minutes ago “No nested paragraphs” should be right up there with “don’t hack core”.

Brian Gilbert 41 minutes ago ++

Anthony Roundtree 41 minutes ago Paragraphs = Dagwood/Scooby-Doo sandwich

Doug Vann 41 minutes ago ruh ro

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 41 minutes ago @Jessica Straatmann thx.

Brian Manning 41 minutes ago 😎 👋

Chris Wu 41 minutes ago recently use Entity Relation Layout + Paragraph to create layout

Andy Smith 40 minutes ago we’ve taken the approach that only a very select few can actually add paragraphs, but leave the content editing more open. we, or a select few, build the page layout with paragraphs, then turn the content over to the editors. not bulletproof, but okay so far.

Volker Bogatzki 40 minutes ago Now: https://www.drupal.org/project/layout_paragraphs

Nik Anderson 40 minutes ago Jay, how do you know which cup is yours?

Hilmar The Drupalviking 40 minutes ago Mike, Hahahaha

Andy Smith 40 minutes ago yes, we limit nesting

Kevin Basarab 40 minutes ago Limiting nesting is a big plus.

Debbie Flitner 39 minutes ago lol @Nik Anderson I wanted to start a JAAAYY cheer when the cup shows up

Zack Hawkins 39 minutes ago Nik, you would think that was his name but those are his initials.

David Wells 39 minutes ago Limiting nesting (and paragraphs that can be used in a region) is extremely important from a content side. It’s so overwhelming if you just have a ton of paragraphs in that dropdown.

Ivan Chaquea (Drupal Colombia) 39 minutes ago @Chris Wu this? https://www.drupal.org/project/entity_reference_layout

Ivan Chaquea (Drupal Colombia) 38 minutes ago As of july 13 was abandoned in favor of https://www.drupal.org/project/layout_paragraphs

Ana Colautti 38 minutes ago I also think Paragraphs doesn’t work with Conditional fields

Jessica Straatmann 38 minutes ago https://www.drupal.org/project/node_revisions_autoclean - sadly minimally maintained; nothing since 2018

Shane Pfaffly 38 minutes ago Looks like autoclean recommends - https://www.drupal.org/project/node_revision_delete

Chris Wu 38 minutes ago @Ivan Chaquea (Drupal Colombia) yes.

Brian Gilbert 38 minutes ago https://www.drupal.org/project/paragraphs_ee

Seth Gregory 37 minutes ago We have a demo video in the on-demand library of some custom layout tooling we built on top of paragraphs with that off-canvas paradigm.

Aaron Christian 37 minutes ago Bootstrap Layout Builder + Layout Paragraphs sounds like a great solution; https://www.drupal.org/project/bootstrap_layout_builder

Rolando Scott 37 minutes ago Yeah paragraphs dont work with Conditional Fields Ana

Ana Colautti 37 minutes ago :(

Josh Wagner 37 minutes ago Paragraphs Browser is really helpful

Philip Stier 36 minutes ago ^^

Barbara Gelhard 36 minutes ago Are the slides changing for anyone?

Ana Colautti 36 minutes ago yes

Ashley Ryan 36 minutes ago yes

Rolando Scott 36 minutes ago Yes

Brian Gilbert 36 minutes ago yes changing for me

Kelly Geer 36 minutes ago Refresh

Ivan Chaquea (Drupal Colombia) 36 minutes ago @Seth Gregory link please?

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 36 minutes ago Honestly not sure why all energy shouldn’t move into Layout Builder now that it’s landed.

Mike Cermak 36 minutes ago slides keep freezing for me, first time all conference I’ve had an issue

Hilmar The Drupalviking 35 minutes ago Mike, refresh your tab

Brian Gilbert 35 minutes ago have seen others have the issue throughout the conference

Dan Lemon 35 minutes ago Try refresh Mike

Ashley Ryan 35 minutes ago My biggest fear is just that Layout Builder is a bit complicated for our editors who are used to going to the Edit tab for everything. We already have issues just getting people to use Paragraphs within it.

Andy Smith 35 minutes ago no lag here

Barbara Gelhard 35 minutes ago Refreshing helped

Hilmar The Drupalviking 35 minutes ago Freezing issues is resolved with refreshing ;)

Kevin Basarab 35 minutes ago Videos were a little choppy but tabs keeping up since I refreshed earlier.

Hilmar The Drupalviking 35 minutes ago (mostly)

Tim Broeker 35 minutes ago I’ve also heard that simply leaving the tab and and then coming back will kick in the slides

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 35 minutes ago Paragraphs has great semantics

Andy Smith 34 minutes ago frankly, any site building tool is too complicated for our editors :(

Shelane French 34 minutes ago I can’t get Layout Builder to work with Bootstrap theme.

Kevin Basarab 34 minutes ago +1 Nathan. Decoupled sites work well with Paragraphs

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 34 minutes ago Another good: the patch for Layout Builder with Variants just got committed. Create a layout builder variant
drupal.org/project/page_manager/issues/2960739

Doug Vann 34 minutes ago @André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs LB doesn’t solve the need for Collections of Fields. It really looks like LB + Paragraphs is the way it is going to be.

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 34 minutes ago @Shelane French which contrib are you talking about? /bootstrap

Seth Gregory 33 minutes ago @Ivan Chaquea (Drupal Colombia) https://vimeo.com/showcase/7303843/video/436170728

Kevin Basarab 33 minutes ago Something i’ve always talked about doing is using entity_clone and sample template pages for helping content building. Then when you do node/add/article for example you get a choice of template to start from.

David Loop 33 minutes ago @Shelane French Try this.

Shelane French 33 minutes ago Yes, “the” Bootstrap theme.

Ivan Chaquea (Drupal Colombia) 33 minutes ago One of the main reasons to use layout builder over paragraphs is reusable content, reusable paragraphs do not have a nice workflow

David Loop 33 minutes ago https://www.drupal.org/project/bootstrap_layout_builder

Josh Wagner 33 minutes ago @Doug Vann yeah I feel like it’ll settle there, combo of both

Meg Claypool 33 minutes ago @Doug Vann Yeah, we’re using both

Anthony Roundtree 32 minutes ago Q: Through groups or permissions, can you limit LB for content users?

Justin Jamison 32 minutes ago @Kevin Basarab That technique was something we initially did at Younique, but then our Content Editor didn’t use the templates at all.

Ashley Ryan 32 minutes ago We’ve noticed that some things break in Modal though - like image upload and other things in ckeditor that need a modal themselves

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 32 minutes ago @Shelane French that theme is dead. It’s stuck on 3 which is EOL

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 32 minutes ago It’s not dead dead. just somewhat dead https://www.drupal.org/project/bootstrap/issues/2554199

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 32 minutes ago Another good: Layout Builder Everywhere. drupal.org/project/lb_everywhere

Josh Wagner 32 minutes ago @Anthony Roundtree I think there are contrib modules that are trying that

Kyle Regan 32 minutes ago @Ashley Ryan same here

Michael Muzzie 31 minutes ago Yes! I agree. The Layout vs Edit tab is confusing

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 31 minutes ago nobody has stepped up to take the reins and there are now other good boostrap 4 themes @Shelane French

Lauren Moriarty 31 minutes ago @Anthony Roundtree you can limit LB to content types and roles and LB Restrictions module is helpful.

Debbie Flitner 31 minutes ago There was a session earlier about better admin UI which was really good - https://events.drupal.org/global2020/sessions/outstanding-admin-ux

Doug Vann 31 minutes ago @Anthony Roundtree https://www.drupal.org/docs/contributed-modules/layout-builder-restrictions

Kevin Basarab 31 minutes ago @Justin Jamison Sighhh. That’s always the hard part. Give flexibility to try things but not overwhelm.

Nick Dickinson Wilde (he/him) 31 minutes ago Re moving layoutbuilder to content page: https://www.drupal.org/project/layout_paragraphs

Ashley Ryan 31 minutes ago @Kyle Regan It’s really a pain. The side panel isn’t big enough for editing a lot of things, and we thought modal would be the solution. Were all excited about it until we started noticing those issues.

Rich Lawson - Mediacurrent 31 minutes ago @Anthony Roundtree , yes. There’s a “Configure any layout” permission as well as individual “Administer display” permissions for entity types.

Liz Gallagher 31 minutes ago Quite a lot of modules available to extend layout builder: https://www.drupal.org/docs/8/core/modules/layout-builder/additional-modules

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 31 minutes ago @Shelane French switch to https://www.drupal.org/project/bootstrap_barrio

Doug Vann 30 minutes ago Emulsify?

Rosemary Foley 30 minutes ago Q: Would you recommend using a combination of paragraphs and layout builder together?

Kevin Basarab 30 minutes ago Acquia Site Studio now

Kyle Regan 30 minutes ago @Ashley Ryan there’s a reset theme module you can install. Checkout the admin UI session from earlier

Makur J 30 minutes ago Q: Will the slides be available?

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 30 minutes ago Note that Cohesion now “Site Studio” (rebranded)

Ashley Ryan 30 minutes ago @Kyle Regan Thanks! I’ll have to check that out!

Justin Jamison 30 minutes ago @Kevin Basarab Right! We also created 20 or so Paragraph types (in hindsight, WAY too many), and our Editor ended up just using the Slide Show one for EVERYTHING.

Mario Valencia 29 minutes ago Like nature, editors find a way

Jessica Straatmann 29 minutes ago LOL

Justin Jamison 29 minutes ago So yeah, it heavily depends on teh editor’s preferences.

Kevin Basarab 29 minutes ago hahahah. Slide show or carousels should 100% have extra permissions granted for an editor to be allowed to use

Josh Wagner 29 minutes ago @Mario Valencia lol

Nik Anderson 29 minutes ago I mean is there anything that CAN’T be represented by a slide show?

Owen Bush 29 minutes ago For a client to pay per slideshow. PPS.

Anthony Roundtree 29 minutes ago thank you all

Ana Colautti 29 minutes ago @Mario Valencia XD

Justin Jamison 28 minutes ago @Kevin Basarab Yeah, in our case, the Slide Show was effectively just a WYSIWYG.

Emma Blue (she/her) @ Digital Echidna 28 minutes ago The JSON can make code reviews tricky.

Shane Gammon 28 minutes ago @Shelane French Have you tried Radix (suing Bootstrap 4)? https://www.drupal.org/project/radix

Kevin Basarab 28 minutes ago Yeah. That makes sense.

Mario Valencia 28 minutes ago One editor came to me complaining that the media dialog did not work…

Ashley Ryan 28 minutes ago @Nik Anderson Client: “Challenge accepted.”

Mario Valencia 28 minutes ago In their phone

Stuart Clark 28 minutes ago Q: Are you (or audience) aware of any viable JSON:API powered frontend editing options yet?

Doug Vann 28 minutes ago Emulsify Drupal takes more of a Gutenberg approach, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYUPYtT2FRE https://www.drupal.org/project/emulsify_drupal

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 27 minutes ago Also note that the patch to export layouts is almost ready: Expose Layout Builder data to REST and JSON:API
drupal.org/project/drupal/issues/2942975

Shelane French 27 minutes ago Switching to a Bootstrap 4 thing is bigger than just switching themes. There is the whole css we’ve built on top of it, template that have specific Bootstrap 3 classes, and content body fields containing BS 3 classes.

Kevin Basarab 27 minutes ago I’m always amazed how almost any admin UX you put google analytics on some editor will try to edit it from a Wii or a PS4.

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 27 minutes ago @Shane Gammon @Shelane French haven’t heard of that one but that looks good too!

Michael Silverman 26 minutes ago pretty cool @Jay Callicott with the video presto going along with the talk - nice job!

Kevin Basarab 26 minutes ago @Stuart Clark Are you referring to building the front end in React and writing back to Drupal via JSON:API?

Lauren Moriarty 26 minutes ago @Kevin Basarab this!

Doug Vann 26 minutes ago Oooh haven’t heard of this one

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 26 minutes ago DXPR used to be called “Glazed Builder”

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 26 minutes ago @Shelane French that’s fair but it’s been eol since last year so it’s hard to expect layout builder to support that

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 26 minutes ago By Sooper Themes

Stuart Clark 26 minutes ago @Kevin Basarab Vue, but yes.

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 25 minutes ago @Shelane French https://github.com/twbs/release

Josh Wagner 25 minutes ago Friends don’t let friends use page builders in WP

Doug Vann 25 minutes ago Friends do let friends hack the snot out of the WP TPL files… lol

Immo reel 25 minutes ago Friends don’t let friends use WP

Eric O. (Session Monitor) 25 minutes ago We hope you’re enjoying the session! Please take a minute to share your thoughts by responding to a brief survey, which is linked in the pinned post at the top of this chat. We appreciate your feedback.

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 25 minutes ago Yes, this method retains revisioning, workflow and workspaces. Real trouble if one isn’t careful with components.

Kevin Basarab 24 minutes ago @Stuart Clark We’ve done some experimentation with React but nothing that really went to production

Kevin Basarab 23 minutes ago I’ve seen some other talks trying that in past too. I think at that point we start wondering about if Drupal is the right choice too.

Rob McBryde @Mediacurrent 23 minutes ago hey @Doug Vann !

Damon Logan 22 minutes ago pros and cons for multilingual?

Anthony Roundtree 22 minutes ago I found it easier to spin up wordpress sites during hackathons for non-technical users using different layout builders. Training was at a minimal and they just got it. I think Layout Builder is the right direction, but I think it needs Paragraphs, but for non-developers, and them a site I found that some users were afraid to touch the site. But, that’s just my experience.

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 21 minutes ago Q: pros and cons for multilingual? (so Jay can easily see the question).

David Loop 21 minutes ago couldn’t that boxing glove just head butt something?

RenatoG (he/him) 21 minutes ago Q: In your opinion, in the future, the tendency will be to use Layout Builder and stop using Paragraphs? Or will both continue in parallel?

Doug Vann 21 minutes ago Q: No mention of Four Kitchen’s Module, Emulsify Drupal? I only discovered it in March and haven’t tried it yet. Seems like it fits somewhere above Gutenberg and HAX, maybe.

Jessica Straatmann 20 minutes ago Q: so what about an accordion paragraph type? We’ve needed a nested paragraph type for that (each tab being a paragraph type)

Pete Dussin (he/him) 20 minutes ago :( no actual rumble?

Dan Moriarty 20 minutes ago @RenatoG ++

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 20 minutes ago Emulsify is great…but seems to be in a different category of tools.

Mark Dischler 20 minutes ago Q: Have you found that front-end devs prefer one over the other?

Scott Alexander @ Digital Echidna 20 minutes ago Thanks for the great presentation!

Matthew Sherman 20 minutes ago Q: Is there a slides link?

Melissa Armstrong (she/her) Organizer • 20 minutes ago We hope you’re enjoying the session! Please take a minute to share your thoughts by responding to the brief survey linked in the pinned post at the top of this chat!

Carson Black 20 minutes ago Thanks for the links on that @Doug Vann

Sarah Thrasher 20 minutes ago yeah emulsify is a theme, not a layout paradigm

Ivan Chaquea (Drupal Colombia) 20 minutes ago @Anthony Roundtree I agree, if i dont need structured data, gutenberg wors perfectly fine for me

Andy Smith 20 minutes ago slides are here: oomph.is/seo-dc2020

Lidia Delgado 20 minutes ago Slides presentation, please?

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 20 minutes ago /clap /clap /clap

Rosemary Foley 20 minutes ago Q: Would you see a need to mix and match based on the content? e.g., focus straight on paragraph for certain contents, or another content type that might be more layout builder heavy? And maybe something inbetween that uses layout builder but paragraphs?

Rosemary Foley 19 minutes ago but with paragraphs too*

Lidia Delgado 19 minutes ago Ok, awesome! Thanks!

Dana Norwood 19 minutes ago we’re using a decoupled approach for articles but now our editors need to be able to build landing pages

Mario Valencia 19 minutes ago 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 19 minutes ago @Damon Logan I can’t compare Paragraphs for multilingual but I can say check out Layout Builder Asymmetric or LB Symmetric Translations modules when using Layout Builder. Worked well for us.

RenatoG (he/him) 19 minutes ago Q: In your opinion, in the future, the tendency will be to use Layout Builder and stop using Paragraphs? Or will both continue in parallel?

Tom Arnold 19 minutes ago You need to drop it into the Content block

Debbie Flitner 19 minutes ago scroll back up through the chat Jay to see questions I think

Tom Arnold 19 minutes ago (oops.. region)

Andy Smith 19 minutes ago sorry - wrong deck :/

Mark Dischler 18 minutes ago Q: Have you found that front-end devs prefer one over the other?

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 18 minutes ago That’s why I’m not seeing a future for Paragraphs.

Sean Flaherty 18 minutes ago merging paragraphs and inline blocks into the same thing would be amazing

Stuart Clark 17 minutes ago @Dana Norwood We’re using Paragraphs and fully decoupled on a prod site, that allows the ability to build landing pages.

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 17 minutes ago And now components are being made for Layout Builder: https://www.drupal.org/project/layout_builder_kit

Jessica Straatmann 17 minutes ago Q: do you have experience with layout builder + blocks + search indexing without using the rendered content option of Search API?

Tim Broeker 17 minutes ago Remember that Paragraphs is not just for “layout” – it is the only reasonable repalcement for Field Collections.

Kevin Basarab 17 minutes ago @jay - Quite a few questions around Multilingual I’ve seen come through if you could speak to some of that.

Josh Wagner 17 minutes ago ^^

RenatoG (he/him) 17 minutes ago Great! Thank you so much @Jay Callicott

Kevin Moylan 17 minutes ago Q: How easily does layout builder content work with ApacheSOLR?

Rich Lawson - Mediacurrent 17 minutes ago ++ @Tim Broeker , we’ve used Paragraphs with Layout Builder for that purpose.

Volker Bogatzki 16 minutes ago Q: How does LB resonate with structured content?

Rosemary Foley 16 minutes ago +1 to jessica straatmann’s question: Q: do you have experience with layout builder + blocks + search indexing without using the rendered content option of Search API?

Sean Flaherty 16 minutes ago There should be an out of the box way to use an arbitrary ‘fieldable field’ node.

Himanshu Sharma 16 minutes ago Q:Which could be better option to expose layout as a service? Is paragraph is more flexible?

Stuart Clark 16 minutes ago @Mark Dischler, we prefer Paragraphs as the structure data makes it easier to render each entity/field as it’s own Vue component on the frontend.

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 16 minutes ago We used Layout Builder + Asymmetric Translations on the Tesla build for 39 languages. Worked very well.

Jimmy Courtice 16 minutes ago I’ve had good experience w/ multilingual paragraphs

Kevin Basarab 16 minutes ago I’m trying to capture questions for booth after too

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 15 minutes ago Yes @André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs was impressed with your presentation on LBK it’s worth a look for those who didn’t see it

Lidia Delgado 15 minutes ago That’s good to know! @Jimmy Courtice

Martin Munro 15 minutes ago Q: Any hope for improvements that will make layout builder more decoupled compatible?

Tom Arnold 15 minutes ago Gotta go. Thank you very much!

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 14 minutes ago To learn about the structure in Layout Builder, see: Layout Builder components can break your site. Here’s how. https://events.drupal.org/global2020/sessions/layout-builder-components-can-break-your-site-heres-how

Josh Wagner 14 minutes ago Nice session, thanks!

Michael Silverman 14 minutes ago Come by the Mediacurrent booth to continue the discussion

Kevin Basarab 14 minutes ago I’ve tried to capture quite a few of the earlier questions that I’ll pull to the booth

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 14 minutes ago Thanks for the overview…this should be part of a Drupal site building bootcamp!

Sara Jacobson 14 minutes ago Thank you! Nice overview

Stuart Clark 13 minutes ago There is an open issue on Layout Builder decoupled improvements

Debbie Flitner 13 minutes ago thank you, great session! <3 Mediacurrent

Volker Bogatzki 13 minutes ago Thanks a lot, nice competition :)

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 13 minutes ago /clap /clap great side discussion folks too!

Stuart Clark 13 minutes ago https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal/issues/2942975

Jeremiah Davis 13 minutes ago https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal/issues/2942975 (Expose Layout Builder data to REST and JSON:API)

Rich Lawson - Mediacurrent 13 minutes ago It’s being worked on: https://www.drupal.org/project/drupal/issues/2942975

Peter Zsurka 13 minutes ago Thanks for the great talk, lots of good information.

Kevin Moylan 13 minutes ago Q: Does Layout Builder allow for alternative layouts for responsive theming?

Igor Barato 12 minutes ago Thanks! Great presentation!

Stuart Clark 12 minutes ago @Jay Callicott We only render in the frontend, but we currently read in the Schema data from Drupal to render it in the frontend.

Martin Munro 12 minutes ago Thanks!

Jessica Straatmann 12 minutes ago My understanding is no

Aaron Christian 12 minutes ago Kevin please see: https://www.drupal.org/project/bootstrap_layout_builder

Justin Jamison 12 minutes ago I think you can stay in the room longer.

Seth Gregory 12 minutes ago I think it stays open, just disappears from the list so new people won’t join.

André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs 12 minutes ago I’ve seen people go for at least 10 more min

Dana Norwood 12 minutes ago @Stuart Clark using druxt?

Jessica Straatmann 12 minutes ago Q: do you have experience with layout builder + blocks + search indexing without using the rendered content option of Search API?

Kevin Moylan 12 minutes ago thans aaron

Lauren Moriarty 12 minutes ago Thanks! Great talk. We debate LB v Paragraphs all the time.

Stuart Clark 12 minutes ago @Dana Norwood Druxt uses the schema from Drupal, yes

Kevin Basarab 11 minutes ago I think for decoupled more single column layouts are probably going to give the most return on your structure. Then you get the benefits of the drag+drop for the editors.

Kripashankar Krishnaswamy 11 minutes ago Q: Can we use a combination for Paragraph + LB, Paragraph for flat searchable content and Layout builder to only drag and drop content

Jessica Straatmann 10 minutes ago Rendered content: doesn’t work with private content (mixed private/public)

Dana Norwood 10 minutes ago @Stuart Clark we’re using vue for our front-end projects. any good resources on druxt?

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 10 minutes ago We’ve played around with https://www.drupal.org/project/entity_reference_layout and it’s awesome

Stuart Clark 3 minutes ago @Dana Norwood But if you are referring to the Paragraphs message from before; The site I was referring to is the precursor of Druxt. Druxt supports Paragraphs, but the demo isn’t using them atm.

Ki Kim 2 minutes ago Why did Panels fall out of fashion with Drupal 8? It was so popular with D7.

Nathan Vexler (he/him) | (English/Français) 2 minutes ago It works with any entity including paragraphs

Stuart Clark 2 minutes ago @Dana Norwood We’re still writing all the docs, but check the druxt-demo repo, all code is public.

Sarah Thrasher 2 minutes ago maintainers moved to layout builder

Sarah Thrasher 2 minutes ago re panels

Ivan Chaquea (Drupal Colombia) 2 minutes ago @nathan vexler module abandoned, move do a different module

Sarah Thrasher 2 minutes ago layouts in LB are way better than layouts in panels

Kamalpreet Kaur 2 minutes ago https://www.drupal.org/project/ezcontent & https://www.drupal.org/project/ezcontent_api @Martin Munro You may check this drupal distribution it makes Layout Builder, Paragraphs, Menus, Previews work with decoupled applications.

Jessica Straatmann a minute ago I think search is still a real pain point with layout builder unfortunately.

Stuart Clark a minute ago @Dana Norwood Also, make sure to check out the demo with Vue dev tools, you can see the schema and entities in the Vuex store

Kevin Basarab a minute ago From Earlier….

Kevin Basarab a minute ago Are you (or audience) aware of any viable JSON:API powered frontend editing options yet?

Dana Norwood a minute ago @Stuart Clark thanks. will check it out.

Kevin Basarab a minute ago That was from @Stuart Clark

Stuart Clark a few seconds ago I’m going to make one, but I don’t want to if I need to :)

Andy Smith a few seconds ago is that editing content via json:api? push edits back via json?

Stuart Clark a few seconds ago No, not really, more just if anyone is knowledgable of a decent npm package that provides good ux

Mark Dischler in a few seconds Thanks, @Stuart Clark!

Richard Hood in a few seconds Thank you!

Debbie Flitner in a few seconds there was an Emulsify session as well

Jessica Straatmann in a few seconds Q: more of a general question - how nested is terrible in paragraphs? As example use case accordion tabs within an accordion type

Kevin Basarab in a few seconds One level deep isn’t too bad

Stuart Clark in a few seconds @Andy Smith Yes, we have the start of the work, but I don’t like reinventing the wheel

Jessica Straatmann in a few seconds Thanks!

Kevin Basarab in a few seconds Slideshows get into that as well.

Ivan Chaquea (Drupal Colombia) in a few seconds you can use custom fields inside paragraphs too

Dan Lemon in a few seconds FYI: https://www.drupal.org/project/ckeditor5_sections - this is what we came up with for CKEditor5 sections editor, but we haven’t had time to improve the UI/UX since last year. Happy to get more people to contribute it as we think it makes sense to eventually move to CKEditor5 in core… The “Sections Editor” that we built is similar to Gutenberg/Paragraphs but built from the ground up

Martin Munro in a few seconds @Kamalpreet Kaur: I’d not seen that: thanks.

Kevin Basarab in a few seconds Looks like it!

Jessica Straatmann in a few seconds Q: Are folks using private content with layout builder?

Kristin White in a few seconds thank you! that was great :)

Jessica Straatmann in a few seconds (Sorry - that was a repeat)

Rebecca Macaulay in a few seconds Q: Do you know if there’s any initiative to place the layout info under the edit tab (it really is bad UX that it’s in a separate tab called “layout”)

Doug Vann in a few seconds Jay.. I just slacked you a link to a copy/paste of this chat if you want to keep it.

Doug Vann in a few seconds On that topic… some ppl use fields on the node… then have those fields layout automatically. For them, the Layout tab has little value

Kevin Basarab in a few seconds hahaa. I used to have sooooo many nodequeues.

Doug Vann in a few seconds for others… they use no fields on the node and all the content of the node is throgh LB placement of global or inline blocks. For those users, the EDIT tab has little value. but i still think we could make the UI more clear, just dunno how

Volker Bogatzki in a few seconds @Doug Vann And when you have custom block content created with via LB you wouldn’t find it on the node edit form… also very confusing

Sarah Thrasher in a few seconds layout builder can use the node fields

Kevin Basarab in a few seconds +1 Doug - Depends on situation and what you need

Debbie Flitner in a few seconds +1 Volker. That’s the big reason we didn’t go with LB for stuff our editors would be touching

Jessica Straatmann in a few seconds Not searchable though -

Doug Vann in a few seconds right @Sarah Thrasher that was the 1st scenario i put forth.

Sarah Thrasher in a few seconds ah ok missed in backscroll

Jessica Straatmann in a few seconds (with the rendered content option of search api)

Doug Vann in a few seconds no sweat

Jessica Straatmann in a few seconds Sure thing

Kevin Basarab in a few seconds We did some paragraphs that we grabbed content for a decoupled FE via Solr

Kevin Basarab in a few seconds Not sure if that is similar Jessica

Jessica Straatmann in a few seconds I may stop by the booth

Doug Vann 3 minutes ago Everyone should check out the session from @André Angelantoni @ Performant Labs on this topic :-)
