Another try at getting a laptop that can handle what i put it through
I’m a web developer, so almost everything i do is in basically a text editor and a web browser, but apparently that’s too much to ask of modern hardware.
All right, i also do lots of other stuff that ends up with me having hundreds of tabs open at any given time, and i may be running a dozen docker-based virtual machines, and word processers and music and multiple chat software, and plenty of videoconferencing, but i can use apparently infinite RAM and can at times bog down almost any system, it seems.
But here are
- Well nigh indestructible when carried in backpacks
- Screen anti-glare / bright enough to work in the sun
- Minimum 4 hours battery life in regular usage, more strongly preferred.
- Minimum 32GB RAM, more strongly preferred.
- Minimum 2TB hard drive… technically 1TB would currently do but i really don’t want to have to think about free space.
- Hearing Rizen, an AMD processor, is recommended? But anyway the processor needs to be good.
- Runs Ubuntu or other mainline GNU/Linux well.
- Works with external monitor
- Two power cords (one stays in office, other for mobile)
- Ethically sourced parts to the degree possible (at least no slavery, less environmental destruction than average, etc)
- No money going to Microsoft for Windows or any other proprietary software
If accessories are the best way to do some of these (screen cover? external battery? that carrying case you were mentioning?) i’m open to that also.
